A Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a distinct subspecialized area within the hospital providing neuro critically ill patients with personalized and optimal care by a team of expert healthcare providers in the management of life threatening conditions such as severe brain injuries, subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke or post-op neurosurgical procedures.The unit helps in achieving a better prognosis and outcomes for neuro critically ill patients.
A Hospital-based (NCCU) team is available around-the-clock, a neuro intensivist with Neuro critical care privileges or designee provides on-site care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additional subspecialty physician and interdisciplinary teams are available for consultation as needed, including a neurosurgeon, radiologist, psychiatrist, palliative/supportive care consultant, cerebrovascular neurologist, intensive care nursing staff with additional special training in (NCCU) will take care of patients around-the-clock.
Other multidisciplinary team members, such as respiratory therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech pathologist specialist, social worker, nutritionist, and clinical pharmacist will provide timely and appropriate care for (NCCU) patients.
The unit Goals are:
1. Improve chances of survival following acute life threatening neurological disease.
2. Enhance patient neurological functional outcome.
